The Parrot Tulips are ready to cut this week. I made up this little posy using white Parrot Tulips & white Narcissi on Saturday morning & now, on the 4th day, it's still looking fresh. They're long lasting blooms. Make a nice little posy for a Flower Girl perhaps?

Here's a coral coloured beauty opening fully for the first time in the garden today. The outside of the petals glisten in the light. Another large flower - almost 9 cms from base of the flower to petal tip. Possibly my favourite tulip today?
Each day brings a new tulip to admire at the moment - & I'm really not sure if I could tell you which is my favourite!
The tulips grown here are tall with strong stems & very different to the ones usually seen on sale in the supermarket. Often they open flat in the sunshine & close when the light changes. They last well in a vase. Here are a couple of pictures of my favourite today - the flower measures 8.5cms high. The Speciality Tulips have come on fast this week & these are a few we've been cutting this morning. It's said fresh tulips 'squeak' when you touch the leaves & these certainly do!
There are many varieties of doubles, parrots, even multi headed tulips growing in the Cutting Garden. We plan varieties & planting position to give a selection to cut from mid-March to late May. These are a few of the tulips I'll bring to Loch Arthur Farm shop tomorrow, Saturday 8th April. I'll be there between 11am & 2pm to sell our country bunches & posies. So why not come along & treat yourself or someone you know who would love our gorgeous fresh flowers? The Loch Arthur Cafe & Farm shop (at Beeswing near Dumfries) is excellent & worth a visit. |
