Some people count sheep to help them sleep, but this morning I'm wide awake & counting stems of the spring flowers coming along in the Flower Farm. Harder than it sounds! Some flowers are coming along so fast (like the little Muscari & Hyacinths), I've moved them into the cool & dark to slow them down. Others (such as the speciality tulips) are being cosseted indoors to speed them up. The reward for me is this little group of flowers pictured here for my kitchen table. All were fully opened so I might as well enjoy them. The focus of my counting is Mothers Day (Sunday March 26th), one of the big flowery days in the calendar. It's the weekend we aim to start having our flowers available for bouquets & posies, both for delivery & the Farmers Market in Kirkcudbright. Of course, we'll have plenty of spring flowers on the day, even though Mother Nature is so unpredictable to work with. I'll order extra Tulips & Narcissi from growers in Cornwall & the Scilly Isles for this special weekend. The flowers there are ready a few weeks before us. All our flowers & foliage are British grown throughout the year & almost all is grown here in New Galloway. To order a special bouquet for your Mother, take a look here
